Sound Inpatient Physicians Creating The Next Generation of Hospital Inpatient Care

"As America focuses on healthcare today, we are creating the next generation of inpatient care for tomorrow," said Dr. Robert Bessler, CEO and President of Sound Inpatient Physicians. Dr. Bessler was addressing Sound's Chief Hospitalists at the company's 2008 annual Leadership Conference held March 10-13 in Tacoma, Washington.
Dr. Larry Wellikson, CEO of the Society of Hospital Medicine, was the keynote speaker at this year's Conference. "In the field of medicine, you are in the right place at the right time. Hospitalists will change the way healthcare is delivered and you're the ones to do it," said Dr. Wellikson.
Dr. Wellikson also observed that Sound's SIP Hospitalist Institute, sponsor of the annual Leadership Conference, is structured to enhance the key elements of Hospital Medicine by focusing on collaborative learning, mentoring and leadership training. "Team medicine should become an educational component in every medical school in America," noted Dr. Wellikson.
At the conference, William Martin, PsyD, MPH of the American College of Physician Executives, provided instruction on "Managing Physicians Performance." This accredited course offered critical insight into the one of the most complex elements of Hospital Medicine: Clinical Performance Management (CPM). Dr. Martin discussed key facets of CPM including measuring expectations, setting goals, introducing change and collaborative interaction.
Sound Inpatient Physicians' annual Leadership Conference provides a collegial venue for Sound's hospitalist physicians to further define their role in Hospital Medicine and to exchange ideas on ways to enhance inpatient care.
