Sound Inpatient Physicians Reaches 1 Millionth Patient Record Milestone Using Its Proprietary Patient Management Software
10/23/2008 (TACOMA, Wash.) - Sound Inpatient Physicians (Sound), a leading, national hospitalist medicine company, announced the major milestone of recording its one-millionth patient visit of hospital inpatient care.
Sound's 300 hospitalist physicians' sole practice focus is hospital inpatient care; they are experts in the illnesses associated with a patient's hospitalization. Hospitalists work in teams and optimize the clinical workflow in the hospital. Sound developed a proprietary software technology called Charge Capture Information System (CCIS) with a physician and software development team.
CCIS technology helps physicians manage patient care and patient flow within the hospital by providing a unique, Web-based platform that is robust enough to handle the complexities of medicine, yet not cumbersome or time-consuming for physicians and nurses to use. Both are common complaints associated with many commercial healthcare software applications. Benefits the software provides are:
- The hospitalist physicians and nursing teams all use CCIS to enhance communication, and to integrate the patient care plan among the caregivers.
- The system manages patient flow, tracks proprietary data to identify inefficiency, and generates reports for further improvements to patient flow.
- The technology promotes best practices in medical care.
- The system improves continuity of care from admission, through hospitalization to discharge and follow-up patient care by primary care physicians who receive auto-generated information and integration into Sound's call center for post-discharge patient care.
Sound partners with hospitals to drive operational improvements. Through one of its key processes, Sound optimizes clinical workflow and addresses best practices in evidence-based care, pharmacy usage, documentation and continuity of care from inpatient to outpatient. The software allows diagnosis-specific processes to be followed by the team of caregivers – the physicians, nurses, case managers and pharmacists – in an integrated fashion exclusive to Sound's healthcare technology. "Our processes and technology with outstanding training, informatics, and leadership lead to superior results for our patients, partner hospitals and physicians," said Dr. Robert Bessler, Sound President & CEO.
Information attained from CCIS records is merged with hospital data to provide comprehensive insight on hospital quality, efficiency and the delivery of care. Reports generated from the system are instrumental in helping to create quality measures and goals for both the hospital and the physician teams.
Dr. Bryan Smith, a Sound hospitalist physician at Auburn Regional Medical Center, recorded the one-millionth patient visit record.
