Scot Smith, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Smith leads clinical operations for the North Central region. His responsibilities include organizational leadership and development and regional operational performance. In his role, Dr. Macaulay works directly with the Chief Hospitalists and Regional Vice President of Operations to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and the alignment of performance with partner hospital goals.

Dr. Smith developed the first hospitalist program for the Navy and launched four military hospitalist programs, including the first international hospitalist program in Japan. After graduating from the Hahnemann University medical school, he trained at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Scot is board certified in internal medicine. His prior experience, serving as an Airborne Ranger and Intelligence Officer, brings a wealth of practical knowledge to Sound. Scot is also on the design team for the Department of Defense’s Hospital of the 21st Century program and a member of the Milliman Advisory Board.
